Grandma Mildred slid the turkey into the oven vowing to not let Winnie spend the night again. Oh gosh, why did she refer to him as Winnie? Winfield Arthur – yes both names should be used. It was only proper. That is what they both were – proper.
After the funeral everyone had gone back to their lives, but Gramms had nothing. All of her energy had gone to Pop Pop, even the last four months when he didn’t get out of bed. She was gonna be by his side in sickness and health till the end.
Not one night apart their entire marriage. He was what she knew. And then nothing.
There was the boy from Albuquerque, they held hands and he asked permission to kiss her. Every so sweet and kind, but she said no and ended things. It was the proper thing to do.
Always the proper thing to do.
